The Louis Riel School Division is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, a major Canadian city with almost 800,000 residents! Winnipeg is the capital city of the province of Manitoba, and it is a large urban center with many parks, rivers, and historic architecture while still being close to nature. Winnipeg is a multicultural city with many annual festivals and professional sports teams.
Students will dive into the local culture, customs, and language by living with a Canadian homestay family, carefully chosen by the Louis Riel School District, with our input. After careful inspection and approval, homestay hosts provide students with a safe and nurturing home environment. They will receive monthly compensation to cover the additional expenses they incur by hosting a student.
This program also offers the possibility to attend 1 of 2 French Immersion schools. To be eligible for these schools, students would need a French level of B1 and pass an oral exam with the principal.
Host Families provide students with a safe and nurturing home environment. Students will have a private bedroom and regular nutritious meals. Homestays will receive financial compensation to cover the additional expenses they incur by hosting a student. The hosts support and care for the student as their own child and intend to make him or her feel like a true family member.
Host families are carefully interviewed by the Louis Riel School District, who complete home inspections before selecting families to participate in the hosting program.
